Vorfreude in A to Z

It’s April of 2024 and Day 22 of the A to Z challenge. This year I am doing the theme of ‘26 Moments’ on my blog. I plan to pull out A to Z parts from diverse set which are more than just the parts and possibly describe the world of their own.  It can be a wonder, an invention, a community, the philosophy, a thought, a lead, a culture, a design, or basically anything that would make one wonder and ponder on.  26 imperfect petite flashes that are amongst and around us.

My everyday will have a selection, description, an eight line poem followed by an interpretation.

Vorfreude is a German word and it took me a while to get its pronunciation right even after going through audios. The word has no exact English equivalent. Vor is before and Freude is joy. It’s the word that describes the joyful anticipation. It is that feeling which comes before experiencing something delightful and pleasure. It’s a joyful and intense anticipation from imagining future pleasures. All those exciting things that we wish to do, all our plans, all those happy moments that we imagine, everything is Vorfreude. Those few days that you wait for your trip to begin and all those things that your mind has already planned and visualized to do, that is a Vorfreude. Isn’t that a beautiful word? Isn’t that making our world beautiful?

Poem:
And as randomly as it can get
At a random moment
We dream of
All those could have been,
Should have been,
Will be.
And smile, thank
For this beautiful life.

At one side is the joyful anticipation when we know that is about to happen. At other side are those imaginations that we have, that we know is not going to happen. And still, it gives us an undefined amount of pleasure. This one is to all those that keep us happy!

Nixie

It’s April of 2023 and Day 14 of the A to Z challenge. This year, I am doing the theme legendary creatures from cultures and folklore and an eight line poem along.

Day 14: Nixie

Culture: Shape shifting water spirit from German folklore

Description: They have variety of names like Nix, Nokken, Nixy etc. They have also been depicted in various forms over time like worm, dragon etc. Their sex, bynames and transformations vary geographically. They have been known to lure people into water.

Nixie

If you ever drown,
Do it with grace,
If you ever drown,
Face it and embrace.
While they vary
With name,
There will be a story
Of fame.

Every story that is ever told, has a hero, has a villain. Being fearless is the bottom line.

Elf

It’s April of 2023 and Day 05 of the A to Z challenge. This year, I am doing the theme legendary creatures from cultures and folklore and an eight line poem along.

Day 05: Elf

Culture: Supernatural being from German mythology

Description: Well, the rule is we cannot touch the elves as they will lose their magic. They have been specialized into diminutive creature in tiny human form. They can be helpful or hindering. Tolkein has also used elf in his fiction.

Elf

And then,
All it takes
For one big change,
Is one small action.
And then,
All it takes,
For one small action,
Is one tiny hope.

One has to believe in magic for a real wonder to happen. A magic of believing in one-self and being/doing.

Word/Phrase: zeitgeist
Language: German
Meaning: the thought or sensibility characteristic of a particular period of time

Poem:
a little every day,
a collective more,
one at a time,
time for another,
harder than known,
better than best,
often and more,
zeitgeist of forever!?

Interpretation:
More is a collective action. A lesson for ‘forever’ is that: little’s make more.

Word/Phrase: weltschmerz
Language: German
Meaning: anguish over the world’s evils

Poem:
the seeds from carton,
promised fruits, effortless,
water in ages,
grow in cages,
as promising it looks,
no promises it brings.
weltschmerz he stands,
weltschmerz he dies.

Interpretation:
Easy and free things? what are they? they are evils covered in attractive masks!

Uber

AtoZ2019U

Its April of 2019 and Day 21 of A to Z Challenge. I am doing Foreign word/phrase a day and 8 line poem for it.

Word/Phrase: uber / über
Language: German
Meaning: to a great or extreme degree, denoting an outstanding or supreme example of a particular kind of person or thing, extreme

Poem:
the light stands far.
then,
the dark circles got darker,
the mind got messier,
the soul descended deeper,
the pieces, now more,
nothing near to uber,
yet.

Interpretation:
We always look for a reason to give up on those things which we really aren’t passionate about (there was no love). No pain is extreme to reach the light of love.
