Latvia – Art Nouveau

It’s April of 2021 and Day 12 of the A to Z challenge. This year, I am doing the theme – “Travel the World.” I am visiting countries from A to Z and presenting stories with 8 line poems.

Day 12 Country: Latvia

Latvia with high-income advanced economy, ranks high in Human Development Index. Riga is capital of Latvia and is known for Art Nouveau architecture. The name “Art Nouveau” is French for “new art.” Approximately, one third of Art Nouveau architecture buildings of the world are in Riga and constructions date 1904 to 1914. The art is characterized by flowing lines and patterns of flowers and leaves. Artists drew inspiration from both organic and geometric forms. The Art Nouveau architecture is further classified as: Eclectic, Perpendicular, National Romantic; and Neo-Classical. Below is a picture of a building on Alberta iela.

The old,
Will inspire new,
Bend, break, heal,
The art and the artist,
Will leave and live,
Keep your eyes,
Open or shut.

Be open to see the beauty. Else, you will neither see the beauty, nor the beast.

Beauty, Blind Eyes

Whenever he was worn-out, he used to stare at this picture and write a new story.

He had scribbled hundreds of stories by now and the picture never lacked a motivation for a new perspective.

Today, he sits at a blind school, explaining this picture and all that flow are tears, not the words!

Answer Me Why!

I don’t know why,
It’s Love and heart!

I see through eyes,
I feel with skin,
I whiff with nose,
I lick with tongue,
I heed with ears,
In love and romances,
I lose my senses.

Why is it Love and heart?
My heart beats sturdy,
Loudly, impatiently,
When I say ‘love’,
When I demand,
Why is it heart?

This poem is written for the IndiSpire Edition Number 123 which asks us to write on:

With all your senses, “Fall in Love – One more time”.

Extra and Ordinary

Short story “Extra and Ordinary” is written for the Mondays Finish the Story Challenge – June 15, 2015. The task is, given the image and starting line, to complete the story in 100 to 150 words.

At first, it looked like an ordinary marble, but it was far from it. It was not ordinary because it was with him all through his childhood and even when there was no one else to play around. It was not at all ordinary because it had undergone many patches and still was his favorite toy that had stayed with him from past many years. It was more than ordinary because the day since he had become orphan, this was the only memory he had representing his past.  It was extra-ordinary because whenever he held it in his hands he felt the upbeat as it was his father’s first gift.

More importantly, he had not seen it all past these years and it was one of the first things he wanted to see. He had finally earned enough money for his operation. He was getting his eyes operated in hours and doctors had assured that he would be able to see.

Jon was getting his greatest birthday gift on his 50th birthday!
