Kenya – The Mara

It’s April of 2021 and Day 11 of the A to Z challenge. This year, I am doing the theme – “Travel the World.” I am visiting countries from A to Z and presenting stories with 8 line poems.

Day 11 Country: Kenya

Kenya has around 60 national parks and game reserves with dramatic extremes and contrasting landscapes. Trekking, ballooning, snorkelling etc. are popular tourist attractions in Kenya. Maasai Mara, also sometimes spelled Masai Mara is one of the most famous and important wildlife conservation and wilderness areas in Africa. It is named in honor of the Maasai people, the ancestral inhabitants of the area, who migrated to the area from the Nile Basin. The Maasai Mara national park’s Wildebeest (also called as gnu) migration is considered to be the seventh wonder of the world. The “Great Migration” takes place every year from around July to October when millions of wildebeest migrate from the Serengeti in Tanzania. A picture can be seen below.

The ancestral instincts,
The natural vibes,
The untold miracles,
The unsaid secrets,
Do you wonder?
How they do that all?
We claim to be smart,
On smart devices.

What are we doing? Really!? While we do not understand the most of the nature smartness yet, we behave to lead the social ladder.

  1. Excellent choice for K Prakash! Kenya is a very wild & beautiful land.
I’ve seen actual wildebeests migrating on a few TV Documentaries & it is was simply stunning to watch them all. I think they are lovely creatures!
The Maasai people also are amazing people. A very rich yet simple culture….
And your poem reflects the beauty & simplicity & complex nature of Kenya & its’ inhabitants. And it reminds me that we with all our technology are not so ‘smart’ at all 😉
