Short story “The Mystery of Maya” is written for the Mondays Finish the Story Challenge – July 20, 2015. The task is, given the image and starting line, to complete the story in 100 to 150 words.
The petroglyphs told the story of an unusual event. All the college friends who had come for weekend trip were deeply looking at petroglyphs and trying to decode what it meant. Just then, Maya hoped ahead and exclaimed, “I somehow feel related to it!”.
One of the friends replied, “Yeah, there is a picture of monkey over there”. There were giggles.
2000 years ago,
Little Maya had coined her own symbolic language. It had become traditional and household. She had a very strong belief that she in her next rebirth will come and read the story about herself.
How will Maya ever know that she was the one who had written it along with a secret message? The symbolic language was now extinct.
Life is such a mystery! Who knows?? The untold story associated with us!

Wow sir! Indeed subject of past life is very intriguing. Nobody can be sure whether frequent Déjà-vu a person experience is from long forgotten dormant memory.

Very interesting take on the prompt! I think it is great that she was the person who drew the petroglyphs 2000 years ago!

Nice story! It seems something has filtered down through Maya’s lives so that the petroglyphs look familiar.

Excellent short story Prakash!
Maya reading Mayan language…..
I feel like her when I watch documentaries about Australia & India. I ‘remember’ things from both places yet have never been to either place…
I also remembered a lot of Ojibway (Native Canadian) heritage over the years which baffled a lot of people. I DO believe I was an Ojibway many many years ago!

truth is sure stranger than fiction. Fiction can be well received. Truth is little harder.. Thank you for the thoughts.. 🙂

This is an interesting take on the prompt, with all intriguing elements including rebirth, symbolic language, and a lost civilization. The name matches too. Nice.

That’s the beauty of flash fiction! Always wants one to read more as its limited to 100-150 words… 🙂
Thank you so much.. I have achieved the objective.. 🙂 I am glad you feel so..
