Pen, Paper and Keyboard

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Pens and Pencils.”

When was the last time you wrote something substantive — a letter, a story, a journal entry, etc. — by hand? Could you ever imagine returning to a pre-keyboard era?

When “pen and paper” were introduced for the first time, there was a lot of dis-agreement to use as against the popularly used media “quill“. Now, My generation has seen one more transition of pen and paper to the “keyboard“.

I am lucky that neither i belong to pen and paper nor the keyboard generation. I belong to the one who has seen the transition. So, its natural to use both of them. My frequency of use of the both the media is almost the same.

My personals are pen and paper. And my presentations are keyboard. I still prefer pen and paper and suggest the use of keyboard! Funny!

  1. I use them all and I’m glad that I’m able to do so. My only complaint with texting is that the ‘keyboard’ on my iPhone is so small that my fat fingers often touch the wrong letters. Very frustrating.

  2. G’day PH,

Having been robbed of the ability to hold a pen for any length of time (old age has a lot to answer for) I am therefore grateful for the keyboard, not as personal but a lot less painful 🙂

  3. I was bornw ith a pen in my hand Prakash..i have been writing since I was 4 years old. I remember being able to spell my name & print postcards to the family. I grew up writing poetry; pen to paper. Then I learned how to type. However I always ‘write’ a poem with pen & paper.
I too was able to transition in between writing with pen 7 using a computer.
It feels like the best of both wrolds. I STILL write a journal by hand & write letters to mail…
Still a bit ‘old fashioned’ ;0

  4. It appears I need to spell check here. Sorry I type so quickly & then post without checking my spelling. I must not be in such a hurry 😉
I only hand write letters to a handful of people now. No one younger than me really writes letters anymore. That is sad as I find writing a letter helps me to organize my thoughts & work out things in my mind.
On the other side having immediate access via PC to share with someone is also lovely.
I think I am very blessed to have seen so much change in only 50+ years.
